Antique methods. Honest food. A simple idea that started it all.
Where it all began
In the late 1980s, David Hinson (1955–2010) developed a deep fascination with traditional food production after purchasing a farm in his hometown of Albemarle, North Carolina. Inspired by antique equipment, old-fashioned techniques, and homemade flavors, he began experimenting with foods made the way they once were - simple, pure, and honest.

The Mill & The 1st Products
Around 1989, Dave purchased an antique stone burr mill and began carefully restoring it by hand. He built a small structure to house the equipment and dedicated himself to learning the craft of traditional milling. What began as a personal passion soon turned into something much bigger.
In 1992, Old School Brand™ officially launched with its first grits and corn meal products. From there, Dave expanded the line to include a growing assortment of traditional mixes and pantry staples—about 25 products in total—each created with the same commitment to quality, simplicity, and old-fashioned flavor.
Carrying forward a family tradition of quality, care, and old-fashioned goodness.
A Legacy Continued
Following Dave’s passing in 2010, Robin Hinson and son Parker continued to grow Old School Brand™. What began as a small family vision has continued to evolve while staying rooted in its original purpose.
Today, Parker leads the next generation of the company, helping guide product innovation, expansion, and daily operations. Alongside a dedicated team— including Makayla Hinson in Sales and Marketing and Sherrie Mauldin in Shipping and Receiving — the company continues to grow while honoring its foundation. In 2024, Old School Brand™ expanded into a new manufacturing and warehouse facility in the Endy community of Stanly County.
Through every step forward, the commitment remains the same: quality, purity, and goodness in every product we make—and gratitude for every customer who shares in the legacy.
